The English brand Umbro have opened up their memory chest and relaunched the boots that took them to the top in the 90s: their flagship Speciali 98 model.
We're in 2019, where boots are made with the best technologies and the most advanced materials (flyknit, primeknit, netfit, evofit, etc.), and where it’s the marketing campaigns which mark the path forward.
But this didn't exist in the 90s, where having the best product meant the best players at the time wanted to wear the best boots, and the best was probably the Umbro Speciali 98.
The boot that was launched in 1992 was worn by the best players of the moment, such as: Michael Owen, Bebeto, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Alan Shearer and John Terry.
Umbro has managed to almost 100% reissue the boot that dominated the 90s:
-High quality, super lightweight kangaroo leather
-Reversible tongue
-Reinforcement in the heel, stitched for added stability.
-PU sole with conical studs and flexion points on the metatarsal.
I invite all young players, who are loath to try anything classic and held captive by marketing, to leave their prejudices to one side and give the Speciali 98 a try.
They'll be able to enjoy the sensation of wearing a legendary boot, feel and smell the leather, and see how the use adapts to the foot, resulting in a made-to-measure boot.
