Right in the middle of the “footwear revolution” era, where it appears that everything that worked (very well) before is no longer useful, some brands still remain representing “the resistance” of the classics.

And in running, just as in music, the classics aren’t incompatible with the most current successes either. Even more so when we are talking about the most used model in the whole Marathon world during a five year period (2010-2015). There isn’t a “runner” with a certain amount of experience who doesn’t know the Asics Nimbus.

Main characteristics

Nimbus continues to be one of the benchmarks for long-distance neutral trainers. The model offers the greatest stability control at the same time as maximum cushioning. Nonetheless, they are still more than suitable for “getting a bit of a move on”, as the reactivity and return they offer make them more than valid for fast-paced running.

New features of the Nimbus 22

However, this new edition introduces some ground-breaking new features in relation to what we have become accustomed to from the Japanese brand.

Upper: This is the most “radical” change to this model. The new model has inserted a separation from the upper part of the trainer based on a “double layer” which gives greater hold on the foot and, due to this offers a lot of gains, both in feel and in stride control.

Sole: Another great change to the model is the reduced volume of EVA foam on the arch. In its place, you can instantly appreciate the “Trusstic” membrane, as it gives stability control acting as a nucleus between the front and back of the foot. In this way, the model manages to lighten weight without compromising on its benefits.

“The essence”

On the other hand, Nimbus continues to be Nimbus. A trainer with 22 editions of history that perfectly maintains the features that have given it so much success.

Cushioning: The main feature of the Nimbus. The 80% of gel that makes up the sole makes this trainer the ideal tool for impact protection. This makes it one of the trainers preferred by heavily-built runners (+80 kg) and by light-bodied runners looking for a comfortable trainer for easy runs.

Flyte Foam: Both in the mid-sole and the underside we find this recent technology from the Japanese brand which consists of reinforcing the sole with a material that provides greater reactivity for increasing stride speed and effectiveness. It also makes the trainer lighter, as it weighs less than GEL.

Stability: As in the great majority of recent ASICS models, the front and back parts of the trainer are independent of each other. In this way, you gain control of the stride, gain more stability and suffer less injuries.

Grip: Another key technique of the Japanese brand used in all of its models is the Adapt Mesh. This is a centralised closing system that manages to “grip” the whole foot. In this way, it takes advantage of all the effectiveness of the stride, as “nothing remains loose”.

An ideal trainer, both as a neutral “devourer of kilometres” for runners of any weight which is equally valid as a competition tool for runners weighing over 80kg. It can also be highly recommended for injury prevention/recovery as the protection it offers and the stable control of the foot avoid any type of irregularity in the stride, making it a very “safe” trainer for any terrain.
